"There are many things to take into account when designing nuptial rings, including addressing day-to-day wearing-requirements, for example, whether you put your hands in your pocket a lot at work. Engagement and wedding-rings are for life. They're something you wear all the time, are not solely about fashion, have great relevance and generally need a timeless nature.
"Once you've made your initial drawing, I present an array of gems pertinent for your ring(s). Most people know what sort of jewels they want, but there are many different types of emeralds, diamonds and so on. We talk at length about your options," he says.
At this stage of the design, many want the gem(s) to be in healing contact with their skin. Likewise jewels that were in Great-grandmother's engagement ring are often handed-down through the generations, and frequently must be incorporated.
Adds Marcos, "Jewellery is extremely sentimental. Many people recycle, and re-empower old-family gems by giving them a fresh, new ring. After we have the jewel(s), we start looking at the ring itself, the vehicle for the stone(s). There's a large metal-palette, from red-gold through to green-gold. You can combine red, green and silver to symbolise the harmony of lovers. But the ring's inside circle is the most personal part. I can make stamps, so the ring's inner-side confidentially contains your own completely personalised hallmarks.
"Engraving and hallmarks have stored special information inside wedding-rings for thousands of years. It's important to remember that custom-made jewellery can be packed with important personal relevance," says Marcos.
He hand-forges rings without solder-joints so they're unbroken, eternal circles, something that's important for nuptial rings, and generally he initially makes you prototypes to ensure your ring(s) provide a lifetime of positive feelings of Tightness, comfort and marvelous-ness. "You and the jeweller must advance slowly to do the job correctly. And it's advisable you give yourself and the jewels time to think, and get acquainted, before making the final piece," he says.
Simply communicate your ideas to the jeweller with everyday, plain language. Good custom-jewellers develop ideas strictly under customers' guidance in conjunction with a longtime skill and knowledge of jewellery. Custom-made rings should be guaranteed for life.
